Now we've gone this far. Ratio and Proportion, chapter 6.
A common type of equation that contains fractions(not fractional equations) is a "proportion". In a proportion, each side of the equation is a fraction or ratio. Yes, this is the major difference between a fractional equation and a proportion.

Let's make a proportion.
(a/b) = (c/d) should be the simplest form of a proportion. Now each term on both sides is called a "ratio. So (a/b) on the left side or (c/d) on the right side are individual ratios.
NOw you've already understood that two ratios that are equal form a proportion.

Let's make a proportion an equation.
In (a/b) = (c/d), each letter(a, b, c, d) represents a constant. They've already found and not unknown values.
An equation has at least one unknown value to be found by solving the expression. So change one of the constants into a variable.

Say,
(a/b) = (c/x)

Let's do this a little day by day.
I think this is good for today.

bye.
