세계 7대 불가사의 - The Seven Wonders of the World

1. The Pyramid of Khufu - Khufu was one of the the Fourth dynasty kings of Ancient Egypt. Scientists believe this Great Pyramid was firstly built by king Khufu and thus it is sometimes called the Pyramid of Khufu. To us, however, The Great Pyramid of Giza or just adxx01the Pyramidadxx01 is more preferred.

2. The Lighthouse of Alexandria - The Ptolemies built a lighthouse on the island of Pharos off the coast of their capital city Alexandria. Pharos was originally an island, but was joined to the mainland with a mole constudted by order of Alexander the Great.

3. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon - These are legendary gardens built on the banks of the Euphrates by King Nebuchadnezzar II, the king of Babylonia in the sixth century B.C. who destroyed Jerusalem and sent the Jews into captivity.

4. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus -  A beautiful temple in Asia Minor. It was constucted in honor of the Greek goddess of hunting and wild nature. It was sponsored by the Lydian king Croesus and was designed by the Greek architect Chersiphron.

5. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia - An enormous statue of the Greek father of gods, carved by the great sculptor Pheidias This magnificent temple was built circa 450 BC. It was designed by the architect Libon.

6. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus - From 377 to 353 BC, king Mausollos of Caria  moved his capital to Halicarnassus and spent his whole life constucting his own tomb.

7.  The Colossus of Rhodes - The city-states in the island of Rhodes united to form one territory and made Rhodes their unified capital in 408 BC. To celebrate their unity, the Rhodians erected an enormous statue of their sun god, Helios near the harbor of a Mediterranean Island.
