To us the ashes of our ancestors are sacred and their resting place is hallowed ground. 우리에겐 우리의 조상들의 분진이 종교가 되고 그들이 묻혀있는 곳이 성지가 된답니다.

You wander far from the graves of your ancestors and seemingly without regret. 당신들은 당신들의 선조들이 묻혀있는 곳으로 부터 멀리 떨어진 이곳에서 돌아다니며 살면서도 아무 회한이 없듯이 보입니다.

Your religion was written upon tablets of stone by the iron finger of your God so that you could not forget. (그 이유는 아마도 당신들의 종교 때문일겁니다.) 당신들의 종교는 당신들의 신이 철로된 손끝을 움직여 돌판에 (모세의 십계명을 말함) 당신들이 잊을 수 없도록 파 놓았습니다.

The Red Man could never comprehend or remember it. 그러나 우리 인디언들은 그걸 이해하지도 못하고 알지도 못합니다.

Our religion is the traditions of our ancestors -우리의 종교는 우리 조상들이 가졌던 것입니다. - the dreams of our old men, 우리 아버지들의 꿈을 통해서. given them in solemn hours of the night by the Great Spirit; 엄숙한 밤에 "위대한 혼"으로 부터 받았으며, and the visions of our sachems,우리의 지도자들의 환영을 통해 and is written in the hearts of our people.우리들의 가슴에 새겨진 것.. 그것이 우리의 종교이지요.

Your dead cease to love you and the land of their nativity as soon as they pass the portals of the tomb and wander away beyond the stars. 당신들의 죽음은 사람이 죽어서 무덤에 묻히는 순간 당신들과 자기들이 태어난 땅에 대한 사랑을 거두고 별보다 높은 곳에서 방황을 합니다.

They are soon forgotten and never return. 그들은 곧 영원히 잊혀지지요.

Our dead never forget this beautiful world that gave them being. 우리들은 죽어도 잠시 삶을 주었던 이 아름다운 세상을 잊지 못한 답니다.

They still love its verdant valleys, its murmuring rivers, its magnificent mountains, sequestered vales and verdant lined lakes and bays, and ever yearn in tender fond affection over the lonely hearted living, and often return from the happy hunting ground to visit, guide, console, and comfort them. 푸르던 계곡과 거기에서 소리내며 흐르던 강, 외딴 골짜기들과 푸른 호수와 호숫가를 우리는 죽어서도 사랑하지요, 그리하여 (아버지를 잃고 슬퍼하여) 외로움에 살고있는 이땅에 남은 자식들을 자상하고 깊은 사랑으로 보살피고, 그리고 행복한 사냥터에서 내려와 (인디언 들은 죽으면 하늘에서, 신나게 사냥하며 즐겁게 산다고 생각함) 그들을 찾아와 주고, 이끌어 주고 슬픔을 달래주며 위로해 준답니다.
