5.David Hockney 展의 이해를 위한 용어정리
  (1)Photomerge: Hockney called collages "joiners"

(2)Relief printing vs Intaglio printing (embossing vs engraving: 양각과 음각)

  (3)Acrylic vs Oil painting
     Dry fast/slow, Water soluble/resistant, Inexpensive/expensive, Fewer/More pigments,
     1)Acrylic painting
      -Acryl/ǽkrəl/ – ak(meaning ‘sharp’, ‘sour’: acid) + olere(meaning ‘to smell’: odor)
-Modern art senses ‘acrylic’ often short for acrylic resin(아크릴 수지).
-Resin: 수지(樹脂), 송진: 나무의 유액(乳液: latex), 끈적끈적하고 투명함. 자극적인 냄새, Paint 등의 pigment binder로 쓰임
      -Emulsion(영국): Latex /ˈleɪteks/(미국)
-Acryl polymer emulsion에 pigment를 suspend해 놓은 것이 acrylic paints이다.
     2)Oil painting
-Alkyd is a compound word of ‘al’ from alcohol and ‘kyd’ from ‘acid’. Fatty acid롤 modified된 polyester. Oil paints의 resin 즉 binder로 사용.

  (4)Etching
1)Metal plate – copper, zinc, steel,
     2)Waxy ground (hard/soft) – resistant to acid
3)Etching needle – scratching off ground
4)Mordent or Etchant – a bath of acid which “bites” into the metal
     5)Ground removing
     6)Ink
     7)Printing press
     8)Other intaglio technique
-Engraving – An etching practice using a burin. Rembrandt was a master of it.
-Aquatint – While etching put importance on lines, aquatint produces areas of tone rather than lines. Goya used this technique.

  (5)유채(油彩) – Oil painting(=유화)

(6)Stencil – An impervious material (such as a sheet of paper, thin wax, or woven fabric) perforated with lettering or a design through which a  substance (such as ink, paint, or metallic powder) is forced onto a surface to be printed.

(7)Die bonding – Die는 원래 punch press에서 제품의 주형을 의미. Integrated Circuit에 Chip을 bond하는 것을 die bonding이라 함.

(8)추상표현주의 (abstract expressionism): Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Hans Hofman, Arshile Gorky

  (9)Naturalism

  (10)Contre-jour (Back lighting and Silhouettes)

(11)The final 10 of the greatest painting in Britain Vote of 2005
